Megalomaniac [Fantasia 2022] Review

Synopsis:

Megalomaniac questions the invisible line between victim and executioner and how it is crossed. A film about the weight of patriarchy and the illusion of Manichaeism

Megalomaniac is a film distributed by XYZ Films at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival, it’s one of those foreign films that’s sure to be a breakout hit from this genre festival. It comes at an important time in our world’s climate and how we see each other.

Eline Schumacher and Wim Willaert give terrific performances, Eline also is a name I’ve never heard of before this year’s festival that will be sure to breakthrough with a committed performance like this one and Wim will give people chills with his performance as well.

Sometimes when it comes to foreign movies I have a hard time picking up on certain slang or words with specific meanings to where people are from, with Megalomaniac, I did not feel that issue as it’s sure to reach a wider audience and it never seems to drag with its 100 minute runtime. Karim Ouelhaj does a fantastic job with directing the tension, emotions and getting top -notch performances from everyone involved.

Overall grade: 3/5 stars
