‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Season 1 Review: The best new show of 2021

Mayor of Kingstown, is the definition of why Taylor Sheridan is the king of modern television. After his unmatched success with Yellowstone you may be thinking is there any possibility would he be able to top or at least matchup to its greatness.

The quick answer is yes, after the first two episodes struggled to gain momentum and was mundane to everyone viewing it, questioning why is this so simplistic and been there done that. However, after the third episode it begins to pick up the pace exceeding furiously in a brutal fashion.

Jeremy Renner has never been better as Mike he crushes every single scene he is in. It’s sports an Golden Globe worthy supporting cast of Hugh Dillon, Dianne Wiest, Taylor Handley, and James Jordan. James Jordan steals the show of playing the worlds biggest prick who does everything he can to maintain order in the prison and the town.

Hugh Dillion is near perfect as Ian, while this isn’t a horror show per-say but it is in that mold of genre work, where it is beyond brutal and gut wrenching to watch at times especially the final three episodes feel like they were taken from dark web experiences. The prison riot in the finale will leave genre fans happy with how much grit and balls Taylor Sheridan has to pull something like that off and actually go to that terrifying territory.

Overall grade: 5/5 stars
