[Interview] Kimo Stamboel Dancing Village The Curse Begins

We recently got to interview Kimo Stamboel for his new movie Dancing Village The Curse Begins. We talk about the US release and casting process. As well as what important it is for audiences to take away from the film.

AJ:

Hi, Kimo. how are you?
Kimo:

Hey, AJ. I’m good, man. How are you?

AJ:
Doing good. How did Dancing Village all come about?

Kimo:

Well, it’s crazy man. This is a particular Indonesian movie that we don’t actually plan this out to have a US release. And I think it’s something that quite culturally interesting for you guys to watch. And hopefully, the story is universally enough to get you interested. And the genre, it’s a horror genre. It is something that, I think, you guys are going to love it.

AJ:
And how did the casting process all come about as well?

Kimo:
Well, the casting, because this is a prequel of the first one or even a spin-off, some of the cast is, it’s from the first one. And also, we casted some of the particular main characters, also different because the story is pretty much different. And this one we took about few months to get the main character in. But I’m glad that the main character is the same one and agreeable to shoot this one as well. So yes, I think most of the decision of the cast is based on the casting a session that we have.

AJ:
And how important was it to tell our story like Dancing Village because it is so beautifully shot and directed? And just how important is it to get this movie out there as well?

Kimo:
Pretty much important because it tells about our Indonesian a little bit Indonesian culture in it. And I think hopefully the US and the world audience can actually see how cool some of the Indonesian culture is in, because it’s sort of involve a lot of dancing that’s pretty much rooted in our culture and that’s a particular traditional dancing scenes also. It sort of gave us different take on horror genre. So yes, I think it’s quite important. And the story is about also, it’s about a daughter tried to save the mother. I think that’s cool and hopefully it get the right tune towards the message.

AJ:
And what are you looking forward to most out of audiences getting out in Dancing Village?

Kimo:
I think just to be entertainment man, because again, this is a horror film. And hopefully by watching it, the audience got something out of it and then discuss more about and try to find out about Indonesian culture.

AJ:
Well, Kimo, thank you so much for joining me today. It’s been a great time. And congratulations on Dancing Village.

Kimo:
Thank you so much, AJ.

AJ:
Thank you.
