‘Happy Death Day’ & ‘Freaky’ Director Christopher Landon To Direct “Scream 7”

Unfortunately, Radio Silence, the directing team behind films such as V/H/S, Southbound, Ready or Not, Scream, and Scream VI, will not be helming the highly anticipated Scream 7 due to conflicts in their schedule. In our previous communication, we informed you that there were discussions with Christopher Landon, known for directing Happy Death Day and Freaky, to take on the directing duties. We are pleased to confirm that Christopher Landon has now been officially appointed as the director for Scream 7.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, it has been confirmed that Spyglass has chosen Christopher Landon to direct the seventh film in the well-established franchise. Landon is recognized as a prominent figure in the horror genre, having directed successful films such as the Happy Death Day series and the body-switching horror-comedy Freaky. The Hollywood Reporter cites multiple sources for this information.

The directors of Scream and Scream VI, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, will continue to be involved in the project as executive producers. Chad Villella will also remain as an executive producer.

The identity of the writer for Scream 7 remains unknown at this time. However, according to THR, Melissa Barrera and Mason Gooding are anticipated to reprise their roles in the film. As for Jenna Ortega, only the passage of time will reveal her involvement.

According to THR, the agreement made by Ortega is worth paying attention to, as she joined the franchise prior to her rise to stardom with Netflix’s Wednesday.

Due to the ongoing strikes by WGA and SAG-AFTRA, numerous productions in Hollywood have come to a standstill. As a result, the commencement of production on “Scream VII” is expected to be significantly delayed.

In addition to directing Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, Landon was also responsible for writing the second, third, fourth, and seventh films in the Paranormal Activity franchise.

It goes without saying that his impressive background in horror makes him an ideal choice for the upcoming Woodsboro project. His past accomplishments in the genre serve as a testament to his keen understanding of the essence of the Scream saga.
