Danny Boyle & Alex Garland Gives An Update on ’28 Weeks Later’ Sequel

Danny Boyle and Alex Garland have engaged in substantial discussions regarding the highly anticipated sequel to “28 Days Later.”

The talks have centered around the possibility of a follow-up film titled either “28 Months Later” or “28 Years Later. For the past sixteen years, fans of the films 28 Days Later and its sequel 28 Weeks Later have eagerly anticipated another installment in the franchise.

They have been holding out hope for a movie titled 28 Months Later. In 2009, there were reports that Paul Andrew Williams had signed on to direct the film, but unfortunately, that project never came to fruition. Since then, every so often, the director of 28 Days Later, Danny Boyle, and the screenwriter, Alex Garland, have mentioned the possibility of 28 Months Later and expressed their enthusiasm for a sequel.

However, they have also stated that it may never happen. In an interview last year, Boyle revealed that Garland had already written the script and suggested that now might be the right time to bring it to life on the big screen.

Now, Boyle and Garland have confirmed that they are engaged in serious discussions about the sequel, which might ultimately be titled 28 Years Later.

Garland said, “A few years ago an idea materialized in my head for what would be really 28 Years Later. Danny always liked the idea.“

Boyle added, “So we’re talking about it quite seriously, quite diligently. If he doesn’t want to direct it himself I’ll be well up for it if we can execute a similarly good idea.“
